A few months ago my teacher Michael Kontopoulos, asked how we could make some “3D versions” of mars-esque terrains for a show. The show happened a few weeks ago, the theme was -escapism-, sadly I couldn’t see it, but this was apparently one of a few pieces. I asked him if I could blog some of the process, he said yes, here it is:
overall, we ‘just’ got a bunch of photos from here and there and created height fields from them in rhino. They key was to get a good resolution so there was a bit of tweaking in PHOTOSHOP, some small 3D printed tests, and the final pieces were two disks about 3′ wide which were CNC‘ed and then vaccuum formed.
